The Washington Commanders took guard Chris Paul out of Tulsa in the seventh-round of the NFL Draft. Let’s grade the pick.
The Washington Commanders have added guard Chris Paul to their ranks. We’re not talking about the Point GAWD though. This is a different guard named Chris Paul, out of Tulsa. Let’s break it down and grade the pick.
Honestly, this is a really solid late-round pick. In Paul, you’re getting a four-year starter on the offensive line. He also brings flexibility as he’s played both guard and tackle. That type of versatility is phenomenal for depth.
And yes, he’s depth at the moment. No one is expecting a seventh-round pick to come in and start.
If Paul has anything close to the leadership or work ethic that the NBA superstar of the same name has Washington absolutely nailed this. There’s a pretty obvious difference between the two though. The NBA version is 6’0″, 175 pounds.
However, the Paul that the Commanders just got is listed at 6’4″, 323 pounds. That’s an absolute unit right there.
As mentioned before, this is a depth pick. So don’t expect him to make a big impact right away. However, Paul has the talent to become a very good interior lineman. And if Washington wants to use him as a swingman, he’s already proven he can do that in College.
As far as value goes, getting a solid offensive lineman this late in the draft is never a bad thing. They’ve addressed another position of need as depth on the o-line wasn’t exactly a strength of the team.
The Washington Commanders might not have made the “sexy” pick here, as the offensive line never really gets fans too excited in the draft. That being said, Chris Paul was the right move and a strong addition in the seventh round.
