Recapping every Chicago Bears draft pick in 2022

Running Back — Trestan Ebner, 6th Round, #203

Trestan Ebner was a really good pick for the Chicago Bears. Despite not having a big need at running back, Poles was looking for someone to replace Tarik Cohen. Cohen was the running back/receiver out of the backfield and slot. The Bears released him earlier in the offseason.

Ebner is the perfect replacement for Cohen. He can actually help the Bears in three phases of the game — running, receiving, and special teams.

At 5-foot-11, 206 pounds, and with 4.43-40 speed, Ebner has the combination of size, speed, and versatility. He was a receiver in high school who can provide a mismatch catching passes out of the backfield. In his career at Baylor, he had 11 receiving touchdowns.

As a returner, he has great vision and build-up speed to hit holes and give the offense good field position. In the running game, he can be difficult to bring down. The Bears have that in David Montgomery and Khalil Herbert so they can really wear a defense down with their hard running attack.

Ebner may not get many carries as a runner but he’ll have an impact with his pass-catching ability and special teams runs. Picking him up in the sixth round gives the Bears a high-value pick.
