NFL Draft 2022: Recap and analysis after the weekend of picks

Best scheme fit in the 2022 NFL Draft: Trey McBride, TE, Arizona Cardinals
The 2021 Mackey award winner was not selected until the second round, but that’s just fine for the Arizona Cardinals. His 4.56 40-yard dash time shows up quite often on the field, as it helped him garner 90 receptions and 1,121 yards last fall.
Although the Cards have a receiving threat TE already in three-time Pro Bowler Zach Ertz. But the Super Bowl LII champion will be 32 during the 2022 season, so who knows how much longer he can play at a high level.
Ertz has played the mentor role before with Dallas Goedert in Philadelphia. And his next student in McBride brings a different element as a run-after-catch threat.
So McBride should be a match-up nightmare in Kliff Kingsbury’s air-raid system and with Kyler Murray under center.
The Cards started the offseason with some uncertainty surrounding Murray and his potential new deal, but adding another piece like McBride shows the team is willing to put him in the best position to succeed.
He’ll be needed early in 2022 as well, though, as DeAndre Hopkins will miss the first six games due to a PED suspension.
