The Tennessee Titans were the number one seed after the conclusion of the 2021 regular season. They will not be so lucky in 2022.

The Tennessee Titans had an exciting draft, to say the least. While it can be labeled as “exciting” fans of the Titans should hold back their excitement for the 2022 NFL Season.

While fans and insiders knew that Titans wide receiver AJ Brown was possibly going to hold out for a bigger contract, nobody knew that he be a Philadelphia Eagle before the draft concluded.

The Titans, unwilling to give AJ Brown a contract extension that would put him amongst the top 5 receivers in the league, elected to trade Brown to the Eagles in exchange for their 18th pick in the 1st Round of the NFL Draft.

AJ Brown, arguably a top 10 receiver in the league, was also rewarded with a new contract from Eagles GM Howie Roseman worth approximately $100 million.

Now the Titans were left with a glaring hole at the receiver position with AJ Brown gone and Julio Jones released after a disappointing season.

The Titans selected Arkansas wide receiver Treylon Burks, who throughout the pre-draft process was compared to, you guessed it; AJ Brown. While Burks displays similar traits after his Combine and Pro Day performance the general consensus was Burks lacked the same explosiveness we saw in AJ Brown.

Asking a rookie receiver to fill the shoes of the starting receiver is a tough assignment in itself but the pattern we’ve seen within the NFL is it takes a season or two for most receivers to really feel comfortable in the league and excel.

To put this whole situation in perspective the Titans’ depth chart for starting receivers are as follows; Robert Woods, Treylon Burks, Nick Westbrook-Ikhine. While the Titans is a run-first offense this is still startling.
