NFL Players under most pressure headed into 2022 season
3. Carson Wentz, QB, Washington Commanders
The last player who is under the most pressure in 2022 is Carson Wentz, who is not only fighting to be the Commanders’ long-term option but also fighting to remain a viable starting quarterback option in the NFL.
Wentz was traded from the Eagles to the Colts in 2021, where he reunited with Frank Reich. The Colts had a winning record and Wentz was efficient, but his inconsistencies and collapse at the end of the season were enough for the Colts to ship him to Washington.
Now, in Washington, Wentz is tasked with trying to get the Commanders out of their longstanding irrelevancy.
They started Taylor Heinicke most of the season after Ryan Fitzpatrick went down early in the season.
They also took Sam Howell in the fifth round, who could be an option.
It’s clear that the Commanders did a good bit of work trying to surround Wentz the best they could. They made a couple of quality additions along their offensive line in Trai Turner and Andrew Norwell, and also drafted Jahan Dotson, giving Went another viable pass catcher.
They also have a nice stable of running backs and an underrated offensive line with a very solid duo of tackles in Charles Leno and Sam Cosmi.
Between their mostly complete offense and a ton of talent on the offensive line, the Commanders have one of the most complete rosters in the NFC and should be able to compete for the NFC East title, seeing as the Cowboys took a step back with their offseason moves.
Wentz is the second-best quarterback in that division, and the Commanders’ front office should be expecting at least 9-10 wins and a playoff berth in 2022. If not, Wentz’s time as a viable NFL starter might just go down the drain.
