Once the strength of the team, the Cowboys’ offensive line has become a problem for them. They hope to have things on the right path after releasing La’el Collins and allowing Connor Williams to walk in free agency.

With Collins out, the original plan seemed to be Terence Steele taking over as the right tackle. But with the issues Tyron Smith has had staying healthy at left tackle, Steele is too important as a swing tackle. That’s why rookie first-round pick Tyler Smith is the starter at right tackle in this projection.

Smith has the ability to play left guard but they go with Connor McGovern there as they make sure to have two solid tackles at all times. McGovern might be the starter now, but he has to keep an eye on Matt Farinok who played very well in his one appearance last season.

Farinok is the primary reserve on the interior and Dallas has rookie Matt Waletzko and second-year player Josh Ball as reserves at tackle. Neither would be likely to make the practice squad if released, but the reserve guards they have should be able to — which is why they go heavy at tackle here. Smith’s ability to move inside also helps but with him potentially being the future left tackle, they need to get him reps blocking on the edge.
