Ranking all 13 of the Denver Broncos undrafted rookie signings
Denver Broncos top 2022 UDFA: Christopher Allen, EDGE, Alabama
The Denver Broncos’ top undrafted free agent — both in terms of his pre-draft status as well as the fact that he received $150,000 in total guarantees — is former Alabama pass rusher Christopher Allen.
Allen was considered a 3rd-4th-round prospect despite having multiple injuries throughout his time at Alabama.
It’s not often you see someone that led the SEC in tackles for loss as Allen did in 2020 go undrafted, but here we are.
The Denver Broncos used their top pick in the 2022 NFL Draft on Oklahoma pass rusher Nik Bonitto. They used premium free agent dollars on Randy Gregory. They are moving 2021 third-round pick Baron Browning to the edge.
It’s clear that Denver is prioritizing getting after the quarterback and Allen will undoubtedly be part of that equation if he can prove he is recovered from the injury that kept him out of all but one game this past season.
The Broncos’ depth off the edge is not set in stone at this point.
Bradley Chubb has struggled with injuries the past couple of years, Gregory is currently recovering from a shoulder procedure, and Malik Reed’s pass rush abilities are more reliant on effort than pure speed or traits.
Allen is another guy who can win off the edge with traits and I think he’s going to be an absolute steal for the Broncos.
