NFL Free Agency: One more free agent for each NFC West team

San Francisco 49ers – Adam Humphries, WR

Given the situation with Deebo Samuel still appears to be up in the air, the 49ers adding another pass-catcher would be a smart idea.

Slot receiver Adam Humphries is solid.  He had over 800 receiving yards with the Buccaneers in 2018 and was recently with the Commanders in 2021.

He isn’t lighting up the stat sheet, but he’s been able to put up solid numbers at each of his stops.

Obviously, the talent gap between Deebo Samuel and Adam Humphries is ridiculous, but the 49ers could be a sneaky good NFC team in 2022, so signing another pass catcher to help Trey Lance would be a smart idea.

Arizona Cardinals – Kyle Fuller, CB

The Cardinals are another NFC team that could be super competitive in 2022.

Kyle Fuller was unceremoniously released by the Bears before the 2021 season.  He then latched on with the Denver Broncos and had a bit of a rough season.

He took a clear step back from what he was as a corner, but I think Fuller still has a ton of value as a CB2.

The Cardinals simply need more talented players in their secondary.  They have Budda Baker and Byron Murphy, but not much else outside of them.

Los Angeles Rams – Eric Fisher, LT

Another NFC team that could be ultra-competitive in 2022 is the Los Angeles Rams, who just won the Super Bowl.

The Rams followed up their Super Bowl season by signing Allen Robinson and Bobby Wagner.  They are seemingly able to create cap space out of nowhere and are perhaps the best NFC team.

The retirement of Andrew Whitworth prompted them to re-sign Joseph Noteboom, who was mostly a backup for them.

However, it was a unique situation because Noteboom was a perfectly capable starter who was in a situation where both tackle options Rob Havenstein and Andrew Whitworth were among the best at their position.

I think one of the best things for the Rams to do here is to give themselves some insurance at left tackle, just in case Noteboom struggles.

Why not Eric Fisher?  Fisher came in as the left tackle for the Colts in 2021 after returning from a torn Achilles.

He wasn’t that effective, but perhaps that’s because the Achilles was still bugging him.

In 2022, expect Fisher to return to his old form, which was a rock-solid option for years in Kansas City.

Fisher would start the season as a backup and could be inserted when needed.  Plus, who wouldn’t want to play for the rams?

Seattle Seahawks – Marcus Cannon, RT

The last NFC team in this piece is the Seattle Seahawks, who are preparing for their lives after the Russell Wilson era.

Seattle shipped Wilson to the Denver Broncos and got a bunch of picks and players in return.  They perhaps got their week one starter in the trade in Drew Lock.

Lock and Geno Smith will be competing for this starting spot, and while the Seahawks may have just drafted their right tackle in Abe Lucas, signing Marcus Cannon, a savvy veteran, to hedge their bet with Lucas might be a smart decision.

Cannon was with the Patriots forever before spending 2021 with the Texans.  Cannon has been a reliable option for years and would slide into a low-pressure situation in Seattle.
