2. CB Chris Harris (Los Angeles Chargers)
It’s fascinating that the Pittsburgh Steelers have either led or been tied for the NFL lead in sacks each of the past five seasons – an unprecedented feat. But that has not added up to any success in the postseason.
The club has been spotty at cornerback for any number of years.
The addition via trade of safety Minkah Fitzpatrick was a big boon to the secondary in 2019. But the club has been burned by the big play too many times in recent seasons despite consistent pressure from T.J. Watt and company.
The Steelers are hoping free-agent addition Levi Wallace (Bills) can bolster the cornerback spot. Veteran Joe Haden remains on the open market but could he possibly return to the team this summer?
Heady veteran Chris Harris is still available as well. The four-time Pro Bowler, all with the Broncos, has 22 career interceptions and 94 passes defensed in 11 NFL seasons.
In 2021, Pittsburgh allowed 24 touchdown passes in 17 regular-season outings while totaling 13 interceptions.
That’s five fewer picks than the previous year (18) in one fewer contest. In 2019, Mike Tomlin’s club led the NFL with 38 takeaways and finished second in the league with 20 interceptions.
