Minnesota Vikings: Troy Williamson, WR

When the Minnesota Vikings traded away Randy Moss, they ended up with the No. 7 overall pick in the 2005 NFL Draft. They wound up using that selection on South Carolina’s Troy Williamson, who possessed elite speed.

Williamson was a track star in South Carolina and put up an impressive 4.32 in the 40-yard dash before the draft. He showed that speed off with the Gamecocks as he had 835 yards and seven touchdowns on 43 receptions in his final season — and averaged 19.3 yards per catch for his collegiate career.

Minnesota hoped he could give them a deep threat in the same mold as Moss but it wasn’t even close. Williamson had just 24 receptions for 372 yards with two touchdowns as a rookie. In Year 2, he had 455 yards on 37 receptions with no scores. His final season was his worst as he had just 18 receptions for 240 yards and a score.

It also took a lot of effort to get him the ball. In his three seasons with Minnesota, Williamson had a catch rate of just 47.3 percent and hauled in only 87 of 187 targets.

He was known more for his frequent drops and feud with head coach Brad Childress than anything else during his short stint with the Vikings.
