New Orleans Saints: Eli Apple, CB

Eli Apple is quite the character.

He’s made his rounds through the NFL, starting with the New York Giants. Apple was the 10th overall selection in the 2016 NFL Draft but he never lived up to that status. Of course, part of this was on the team since they reached for him.

By 2018, he was traded to the New Orleans Saints in exchange for a fourth and seventh-round pick. He spent the final 10 games of 2018 with New Orleans and then returned in 2019 and started 10 more games. He wasn’t elite by any means, but he did his job for the Saints before heading to Carolina in 2020 and Cincinnati in 2021.

When he left, there didn’t seem to be any ill will but then suddenly, Apple started to go off the deep end on Twitter. He attacked the Saints as a team, the fan base, and even the city.

Apple made fun of the fact that they overpay Taysom Hill — which is comical what they pay a special teams player but the fans love him for some reason — said they will be losers now that Sean Payton is gone and said the city “stinks.”

In 2022, the Bengals re-signed Apple and while they’re not a rival of the Saints, New Orleans fans surely want to beat up on them when they face each other in Week 6.
