Dallas Cowboys: Roy Williams, WR

Jerry Jones no longer runs the Dallas Cowboys — despite what is said in the media. Sure, he talks all the time and has the title of general manager but somewhere along the lines, his son Stephen Jones took the reins. That’s why Jerry is always complaining about things such as not drafting Johnny Manziel or Paxton Lynch. He also claims the team will make moves in the draft only to watch them stay put — then he complains later that they didn’t do what he wanted.

One of the reasons his son knew he had to step in was the way Jones would get fixated on a certain player and then overpay. That was what happened when Dallas spent two seasons trying to land Roy Williams from the Detroit Lions.

In October of 2008, he finally got his guy as Jerry traded a first, third, and sixth-round pick for Williams — and they gave him a six-year deal worth $54 million. However, Williams never lived up to that contract and was a major disappointment. In 10 games during his first season in Dallas, he had just 19 receptions for 198 yards and a single touchdown.

The line, however, was that he just needed time in the offense. It wasn’t long before we realized he was just a poor fit as he had 596 yards in 2009 and 596 yards in 2010. Williams continued to see a ton of passes thrown his way but very little success came and he was cut just two and a half seasons into his monster extension.
