The New Orleans Saints could see a familiar face at the quarterback position in 2022. Will Drew Brees unretire and continue his successful career?

Putting football on the shelf is hard for aging players. From their youth, athletes spend the year working on their craft to become great. Hanging up the cleats is not easy for those who believe they can still play.

Quarterbacks like Brett Favre and Tom Brady have returned to the game they love even after announcing their retirement. As the 2022 season approaches, the New Orleans Saints wonder if TB’s resurgence has motivated their former Pro Bowl quarterback to make a shocking return of his own?

Dennis Allen and his staff are working towards taking over the NFC South. New Orleans’ impressive draft, showed the franchise’s focus for the upcoming season.

Picks such as Ohio State’s Chris Olave and Trevor Penning from Northern Iowa will help revive the New Orleans offense and find a grove in 2022. At the end of the 2021 season, the Saints ranked 28th in average yards per game.

Many believe the Saints’ leadership at quarterback was part of the problem. The Saints used four different players behind center last season. A mid-season injury to Jameis Winston opened the door for players like Trevor Siemian and Taysom Hill to run the ship. When the ship began to sink, so did New Orleans’ playoff hopes.

It’s been two years since fans in Louisiana have experienced playoff football. A few things have changed since the last matchup in the divisional round of 2020. The Saints have played without their future hall of fame quarterback for two years.

Drew Brees’ retirement after the 2020 season sent the franchise looking for a replacement field general. After searching for a replacement, the Saints are still left without someone to man the helm.

As the 2022 season approaches, the Saints must find ways to bring in an effective quarterback to help them win. As the hunt for a solid starter continues, rumors of a returning quarterback have surfaced.

On Monday morning, Drew Brees took to Twitter to share his thoughts on his former team’s acquisition of wide receiver Jarvis Landry.

The tweet that followed his response to Landry, addressed Drew Brees’ plans for this upcoming season. Brees mentioned that there are a couple of things he could do this off-season and he will let us know how he decides.

Reuniting with his old team could help both parties find a purpose in 2022. The Saints are in need of a quarterback and their former leader has nothing but time.

Drew Brees announced that he will step away from the broadcast booth this season, maybe in time to get ready for primetime football. If New Orleans wants a veteran quarterback, Drew Brees is only one call away.
