Ranking the AFC West Quarterbacks
AFC West QB no. 2: Justin Herbert, Los Angeles Chargers
To be honest, Justin Herbert of the Los Angeles Chargers could be the #1 ranked quarterback in the AFC West next year if he continues on this streak.
Herbert has been in the league for only two seasons and in 2021 he absolutely lit it up. Herbert threw for 5,014 yards with 38 touchdowns (3rd in the league) along with 15 interceptions.
While Herbert had 8 fumbles his rookie season in his second year in the league Herbert showed drastic improvement, with one. To say that Herbert had an excellent sophomore season would be an understatement.
Herbert had the Chargers right on the cusp of reaching the playoffs for the first time since 2018 however a thrilling overtime win by the Raiders brought those dreams crashing down to reality.
Herbert has been placed in an excellent situation for 2022 where their defense was their “Achilles Heel” in 2021 and has since added game-changing players such as DE Khalil Mack and CB JC Jackson.
In 2022 Herbert still needs to keep a close eye on being careful with the ball, in terms of interceptions, and his overall efficiency in short-yard passes needs improvement.
Overall Herbert is quickly climbing the ladder as far as quarterbacks overall, not just in the AFC West.
Herbert excelled after only one season with new Head Coach Brandon Staley and this season should be even more exciting. Not only do I predict that Herbert will be the #1 quarterback in 2022 in the AFC West but the Chargers will also take the West and reach the postseason.
