NFL 2022: Ranking the top 43 quarterbacks in the league
No. 27 NFL quarterback in 2022: Zach Wilson, New York Jets
There is no question that Zach Wilson is in a much better position to succeed here in the 2022 season than he was as a rookie.
The Jets have gone out and made necessary and substantial upgrades to their roster on both sides of the ball.
In free agency, the Jets lured a familiar face to New York with offensive guard Laken Tomlinson joining the offensive line and some of his former pals with the 49ers who are now part of the Jets’ coaching staff.
The Jets then went out in the 2022 NFL Draft and landed Garrett Wilson out of Ohio State and Breece Hall out of Iowa State to upgrade (significantly) their offensive weaponry.
At the tight end position, veterans CJ Uzomah and Tyler Conklin will give Wilson a couple of really desperately needed outlets and safety valves.
Overall, there’s really nowhere for Wilson to go but up after his rookie season. I think, probably more than any other 2021 quarterback besides Trey Lance, the Jets have done the best job of putting a supporting cast around Wilson.
Even if the pieces are mostly young, I like the players around Wilson the best out of the 2021 class sans Lance in San Francisco.
Wilson was sacked a whopping 44 times in 13 games last year so the fact that the Jets upgraded the offensive line with the pickup of Tomlinson and the sneaky great pick of Max Mitchell in round four makes his 2022 projection even better.
