No. 26 NFL quarterback in 2022: Mitchell Trubisky, Pittsburgh Steelers

Am I putting Mitchell Trubisky too high on this list?

Maybe.

He’s coming off of a year in which he was Josh Allen’s backup in Buffalo, where he got a desperately needed reset.

What’s really interesting about every debate surrounding Mitchell Trubisky is that people can’t figure out whether Trubisky’s faults in Chicago are his own or whether Matt Nagy and the coaching staff — which were objectively very bad at the end — contributed heavily to Trubisky’s downfall.

Let’s not forget, the Bears were actually quite good with Trubisky in 2018.

Actually, from 2018-2020, the Bears were 25-13 with Trubisky as the starter and he completed over 65 percent of his passes with 57 touchdowns.

I’m perhaps a little overly optimistic about how things could go with Trubisky in Pittsburgh and I’m okay with that.

Trubisky was the second overall pick of the 2017 NFL Draft, a class that included Deshaun Watson and Patrick Mahomes.

Bears fans know that tale all too well.

With the Steelers, Trubisky has the structure in place all around him to be successful. Yes, the Steelers drafted Kenny Pickett in the first round this year, presumably to play right away, but there’s an opportunity for Trubisky to fend him off.
