No. 19 NFL quarterback in 2022: Jalen Hurts, Philadelphia Eagles

It’s hard not to love success stories like Jalen Hurts.

I’m old enough to remember when Hurts was essentially a change of pace at the quarterback position at Alabama behind Tua Tagovailoa, who had taken Hurts’ starting job after a stellar relief performance in the National Championship game.

Hurts was a great teammate to Tagovailoa, and didn’t transfer until his senior season.

Going to Oklahoma and playing for Lincoln Riley ended up being one of the best decisions Hurts would make. There were times in his lone season with the Sooners that Hurts looked like he could be another first-round QB out of the Lincoln Riley factory.

Even the second round of the NFL Draft felt like a laughable projection given what we had seen from Hurts in most of his time at Alabama. He grew so much in Norman and continued that growth in the NFL with the Philadelphia Eagles.

In just two seasons, Hurts looks like he might end up being the franchise guy for the Eagles. I would say, to be a little more on the conservative side, Hurts is still not quite there yet, but he’s given the Eagles reasons to believe in him and build around him for the time being.

He needs to take that next step in 2022 to really solidify that he is the guy for the Eagles for the long term.

I think he is going to do it.
