No. 39 NFL quarterback in 2022: Sam Darnold, Carolina Panthers

It is going to seem super harsh to have Sam Darnold this low on a list of the top 43 quarterbacks in the NFL for the 2022 season, but how much longer is the “potential” of the former third overall pick going to last?

I feel like he’s got to start showing something out there on the field before any more stock is purchased.

There’s no more buying low on Sam Darnold.

Even though he’s not yet 25 years old, Darnold has proven exactly what many feared coming out of USC.

He has 52 interceptions in 50 NFL games. He has never played a full season and in the last two years, he’s missed a combined nine games.

He had the same number of fumbles last season (9) as he did touchdown passes.

Ultimately, I just don’t think the Panthers can build around this guy. They need to go after Baker Mayfield or Jimmy Garoppolo if they want to actually compete this season, which could be a make-or-break year for Matt Rhule.
