NFL 2022: Ranking the top 43 quarterbacks in the league
No. 38 NFL quarterback in 2022: Marcus Mariota, Atlanta Falcons
If not for their NFC South counterparts in Carolina, I would say the Atlanta Falcons had the worst quarterback situation in the NFL.
Arguably, of course.
That distinction could belong to a variety of teams but the Falcons are in the top (bottom?) three.
Marcus Mariota is the projected starter this season after signing a free agent deal to leave Las Vegas and come to Atlanta where he reunites with Arthur Smith.
The last time Mariota worked with Arthur Smith, he had been demoted from his position as franchise QB to Ryan Tannehill’s backup.
No hard feelings, I guess?
Mariota is absolutely worthy of a dart throw for a team like Atlanta, provided they have the green light from ownership to rebuild and reload.
He’s also a worthwhile reclamation project with tremendous athleticism and a history of being productive, albeit a distant history of it.
We’ll see what he’s learned in his time being a backup to Derek Carr with the Raiders. Hopefully, he is at least capable of putting the ball in spots where players like Drake London and Kyle Pitts can go up and get it.
He’s also getting a former teammate — Bryan Edwards — to join him with the new-look Falcons offense.
