No. 37 NFL quarterback in 2022: Geno Smith, Seattle Seahawks

The career arcs of Geno Smith and Drew Lock — now competing for the starting job in Seattle in 2022 — are oddly similar.

Both players were somewhat surprising second-round picks in their respective draft classes despite being projected first-rounders.

Both players have underwhelmed despite lower draft status and have, to this point, failed to seize a full-time starting role in the NFL.

That could all change for Smith in 2022 as he gets the first crack at being captain of the Russell Wilson-less Seattle Seahawks ship.

At this point, we simply haven’t seen enough of Smith in recent years to really know whether or not this is a good decision by the Seattle Seahawks or whether they should go trade for Baker Mayfield.

Actually, they should probably just make the trade for Mayfield and throw that dart at the board.

You never know.

Smith is going to be 32 this season and is coming off of one of his better years, at least in terms of being a backup. He completed over 68 percent of his passes with five touchdowns and just one interception.

He also added a rushing touchdown. Although I’m not as high on Smith as the Seahawks seemingly are, it’s not too late for us all to see the best version of Geno Smith at the NFL level that we’ve seen.
