NFL 2022: Ranking the top 43 quarterbacks in the league
No. 36 NFL quarterback in 2022: Case Keenum, Buffalo Bills
Case Keenum is one of the most quality backup quarterbacks in the NFL today.
After going undrafted out of Houston a handful of years ago where he put up video game-like numbers as a college quarterback, Keenum has carved out a rather nice role for himself in the NFL.
He was already a coveted backup before the 2017 season in Minnesota but his play as the starter that year for the Vikings dramatically increased his value, and he got a two-year deal from the Denver Broncos in the 2018 offseason to be the team’s new starting quarterback.
Starting the entire 2018 season, Keenum obviously wasn’t the difference-maker the Broncos had hoped for or believed he could be based on his 2017 season with the Vikings, a magical run that ended in the playoffs after the Minneapolis Miracle.
Keenum was traded to Washington in 2019 where he started half the games.
He has spent the last two years in Cleveland, playing sparingly but getting a start and a win against one of his former teams — the Broncos — in a Thursday night matchup.
He will now serve as the backup to Josh Allen in Buffalo, a fascinating contrast of style of play as well as just the physical makeup of these two guys.
Keenum will be a valuable voice for Allen in the quarterback room.
