Best NFL trade no. 1: Russell Wilson to the Denver Broncos

It’s rare enough to see one blockbuster quarterback trade in an NFL offseason.

This year, we got two of them.

In addition to Deshaun Watson commanding a king’s ransom trade return for the Houston Texans, the Seattle Seahawks got themselves a haul from the Denver Broncos, trading away longtime franchise QB Russell Wilson.

In exchange for Wilson and a fourth-round pick, the Seahawks got two first-round picks, two second-round picks, a fifth-round pick, tight end Noah Fant, defensive lineman Shelby Harris, and quarterback Drew Lock.

Although the Seahawks didn’t get as many picks as the Texans got, they actually got some proven veteran players to help their roster right away, and they got a better pick this year in number nine overall from the Broncos.

But how could this trade not be the best of 2022?

The Denver Broncos landed a franchise quarterback.

For years now, Broncos fans have been saying if the team just had a quarterback, it could be vaulted into contender status.

I believe that’s exactly what Russell Wilson does for them.

Since Peyton Manning retired, the Broncos have been in quarterback purgatory, bordering on much worse than that.

They have had few bright spots offensively made even worse by the fact that they actually have some really good players at the skill positions on that side of the ball.

Now, Wilson is tasked with returning the Denver Broncos franchise to glory.

The team paid up a lot to get him, and expectations will be high. Rightfully so. Wilson has the opportunity to beat his former team in Seattle the first week of the 2022 season, and if he can beat the Seahawks and Chargers this year, he will have beaten all 32 NFL teams and will be the youngest QB to ever do that.
