One of the more fluid positions in the NFL is running back; they can be easily replaced but are hard to find. Who are the best duos in the league?

Running backs kind of have it hard in the NFL.  They are generally very replaceable and usually have the shortest shelf-life of any position group.

However, those who excel at the position do still get paid and get the attention they deserve.  While many teams feature one star running back, or one above-average running back, there are a few teams who have two above-average running backs or two backs that complement each other nicely.

The league is going more towards a running back by committee approach.  Sure, Derrick Henry should be getting 20-25 carries per game, but giving him a quality RB2 can extend his career, and keep him fresh as the season goes on.

Teams that are two or even three running backs deep are setting themselves up for success.

There are a few teams in the NFL who boast a very good running back stable.  Generally speaking, these clubs have a good team overall.

Now, the running back position is one that isn’t quite as important as others, but it’s still a position that needs attention.

So, who are the three best running back duos in the NFL heading into the 2022 season?

3. Javonte Williams and Melvin Gordon

The Denver Broncos duo of Javonte Williams and Melvin Gordon is about as good as you can get.

The duo combined for 1,821 yards in 2021, and they both had 203 carries.

It was a solid duo.  Both can win in the open field, block adequately in pass protection, and catch the ball out of the backfield.

It’s clear that Javonte Williams should be the RB1 heading into the season.  His season was filled with ridiculous broken tackles and tough runs.

Melvin Gordon is 29 and can serve as an RB2 or red zone piece.

Nothing against Gordon, but Williams should be getting most of the carries this season.

Even with that, I think this duo could combine for over 2,000 yards if all goes well.
