Best running back duos heading into 2022 NFL season

2. Aaron Jones and AJ Dillon

I think the duo of Aaron Jones and AJ Dillon is a very, very good duo.

Dillion broke out in year two after a quiet rookie season.  He had 803 yards on 187 carries.  He actually gained more rushing yards than Aaron Jones, who struggled a bit.  Jones still averages over five yards per carry and had 52 receptions last year as well.

They combined for a hair over 1,500 rushing yards, which might not sound great, but they also complement each other nicely.  Jones is more of a finesse player due to his size, and AJ Dillon is every bit of 6’0″, 250lbs.

It’s a bruising duo that helps to play in a cold division like the NFC North.

They’re still both relatively young, under contract, and have the potential to each hit 1,000 yards this season.

There could even be a situation where the Packers could turn to Dillon as the primary running back.  He’s got the size and talent to be effective in that role, and he’s on his rookie contract.

Given that Davante Adams is no longer a Packer, Green Bay might now try to become more of a run-first team, especially since Aaron Rodgers is getting old and just signed a three-year extension.

If they want Rodgers to enjoy success in his final few seasons, prioritizing the run game more might be a smart idea.
