New Orleans Saints top move no. 2: Signing Jarvis Landry

Again it’s no secret that the Saints needed help on the outside. Prior to his injury Michael Thomas dominated the target share on the team. Adding both Olave and Landry can help take some of the burden away from Thomas and help make the team more unpredictable.

Signing Landry makes a lot of sense:

He’s a local product. Prior to playing at LSU, he was a Louisiana high school standout.

He’s a veteran who’s been around. This is his 9th year in the league, spending the last four with Cleveland and the prior four with Miami.

He was signed for 1 year. Giving him a prove-it deal is a win-win for both sides. Landry gets to show he’s still a capable receiver (he will turn 30 this season) and the Saints get to add a quality receiver to the slot.

If there are still any doubts or setbacks in Michael Thomas’ rehab Landry can take on a bigger role and be a #1 option.

Make no mistake about it. Landry is still a good football player. Injuries derailed his final year in Cleveland by his own admission. He had several offers floated to his team. Coming to New Orleans is a special opportunity and I see big things happening for him this season.
