New Orleans Saints top move in 2022: Tyrann Mathieu comes home

Marcus Maye could turn out to be a great signing long-term, but it’s the honey badger coming home I’m most excited about.  After all, it’s not every day you get a chance to pick up an all-pro safety.

Mathieu is another LSU standout who is making a homecoming. He’s come a long way from the kid the media loved to hate in his college days.

Adding him to the roster helps to offset some of the moves the Buccaneers have made and keeps the Saints competitive to win the division title. It also makes a good secondary even better.

If the offense can get right it will put even more pressure on opposing quarterbacks to try to keep up, leading to more potential for mistakes this defense can capitalize on.

This defense already has plenty of talented players and adding a guy who had had 13 interceptions in the last three seasons can only help.

Perhaps the biggest impact in New Orleans is with some of his intangibles. He has played in and won a Super Bowl.  His troubled past can become an asset too, mentoring younger players and showing them how to be a pro.

An impact felt on and off the field. What’s not to like?
