The NFL season is now 17 games in length and that means it’s only a matter of time until more records fall, and these 10 could be gone in 2022

2021 was the first year where the NFL had a 17-game schedule and while not every single-season record was topped, it feels like only a matter of time until that happens.

Thus is the life of pro sports when they decided to expand the game.

This past year, a couple of records were threatened as Cooper Kupp encroached on the reception and reception yard titles and T.J. Watt tied for the most sacks in a season.

Here, we look ahead to the 2022 season and pick which 10 stats are most likely to fall this year.

NFL record likely to fall No. 10: Total Field Goals Made

Current record: 44 — David Akers in 2011

Back in 1998, David Akers joined the Washington Commanders football organization and was 0-2 on field goal attempts. The undrafted free agent then joined the Philadelphia Eagles, where he spent the next 12 seasons.

During that span, he hit on 294-of-357 field goal tries and was annually one of the best in the game. Despite him making his living with the Eagles, it was actually with the San Francisco 49ers when he had his record-setting season.

Akers joined the Niners in 2011 and was good on 44-of-52 field goals. He spent just two more seasons in the league but still made it in the record books for that season.

Looking ahead to 2022, there’s a chance this record could fall. In fact, Daniel Carlson came close — knocking in 40 last year. Perhaps he will again knock on the door, but there are other great kickers as well who could threaten the title.
