NFL record likely to fall No. 8: Most Solo Tackles
Current record: 156 — Ray Lewis in 1997
The 26th pick out of Miami in 1996, Ray Lewis quickly became a star for the Baltimore Ravens. As a rookie, he had 110 tackles, 2.5 sacks, and a pick. From there, he only got better.
Lewis ended up with 2,059 tackles in his career as well as 41.5 sacks, 31 interceptions, and three defensive touchdowns. He also has two Super Bowl rings, being part of the Ravens title in 2000 and 2012 — which was his final season in the NFL.
And while Lewis was the picture of consistency, his best season came early on. In just his sophomore campaign of 1997, Lewis recorded an insane 184 tackles — and 156 of those were solo tackles. At the time, that towered over the previous mark of 124 which was set in 1994 by Junior Seau.
For good measure, Lewis also had the second most in 1999 with 130, but that season has since fallen to third — thanks to Patrick Willis recording 136 in 2007.
With an extra game now, it seems likely someone could challenge this feat by Lewis. Two likely candidates are Jordyn Brooks and Foyesade Oluokon.
Brooks had 109 solo tackles and 184 total for the Seahawks, making him a player to watch since he’s always around the ball. As for Oluokon, he had 192 tackles, 102 of which were solo. He also just signed a free-agent deal with the Jaguars, and with both of these teams being offensively challenged, each player will have plenty of chances to rack up the tackles.
Players most likely to break the record: Jordyn Brooks, Foyesade Oluokon
