Packers may regret passing on Utah LB Devin Lloyd

The Green Bay Packers used their top pick in the 2022 NFL Draft on Georgia linebacker Quay Walker.

That selection was acquired from the Las Vegas Raiders for wide receiver Davante Adams, so naturally, there’s going to be a lot of pressure on that player as the guy the Packers traded Davante Adams for.

Ultimately, will Quay Walker end up being a better NFL player than Devin Lloyd, who was considered by some to be a top 10 player in this entire class?

In terms of overall size and athleticism, Walker is not far off from Lloyd. You can’t blame the Packers for taking a guy with elite speed and traits like Walker has, especially considering Walker’s 40-yard dash time was 4.52 compared to Lloyd’s 4.66.

Still, it’s hard to ignore the production of a guy like Devin Lloyd and what he did last season at Utah.

Lloyd’s 2021 season for the Utes:

  • 111 total tackles
  • 22.0 tackles for loss
  • 7.0 sacks
  • 4 interceptions
  • 6 passes broken up
  • 1 forced fumble
  • 1 fumble recovery
  • 2 defensive touchdowns

It’s safe to say that Lloyd was truly one of the most impactful defensive players in all of college football last season but the Packers obviously decided that Quay Walker was a better scheme fit for them.

Will they end up regretting that decision?

Obviously, time will tell, but there’s a chance that Lloyd could go on to have the more productive NFL career, now as a member of the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The Packers made Quay Walker the top linebacker off the board in this year’s draft so he’s already got a big spotlight on him among his peers at the linebacker position in this year’s class.
