Washington Commanders: Armani Rogers, TE, Ohio
The Washington Commanders already have one converted quarterback playing tight end, why not add another. Logan Thomas started his career as a backup quarterback with the Arizona Cardinals but the Buffalo Bills converted him into a tight end. He spent time with the Detroit Lions as well before heading to Washington in 2020.
That year, Thomas was impressive with 670 yards and six touchdowns on 72 receptions. They were hoping for similar success in 2021 but he had just 18 receptions for 196 yards and three scores while playing in just six games due to injuries.
He should be able to bounce back but the Commanders need more able bodies at the position. That brings us to Armani Rogers, who was a quarterback for Ohio and is lining up at tight end in the NFL.
Rogers has excellent size at 6-foot-5 and roughly 230-pounds and proved to be a solid ball carrier as he put up 2,215 yards in his career — which included time at UNLV.
While Washington needs more depth, Rogers is highly unlikely to contribute as a rookie. Instead, he will surely be developing this season but if he starts to show any flashes during the preseason, they might want to avoid exposing him to waivers.
Keeping him on the 53-man roster is the best way to ensure they’re the team that gets to decide whether or not he can make the transition and be as successful as Thomas has been.
