NFL 2022: Biggest contract bargain at every position
Biggest NFL contract bargain at tight end: Darren Waller, Las Vegas Raiders
Average annual salary: $7.45 million (17th among TEs)
In an era of inflation in the NFL, it’s shocking that Darren Waller is still not among the top three highest-paid players at his position in the league.
Waller has been one of the most productive pass catchers in the NFL over the last handful of seasons, averaging almost 70 yards per game since the start of 2019 as well as averaging over 1,000 receiving yards per year in that timeframe.
At $7.45 million, Waller is not even being paid as high as the players at his position who have been given the franchise tag.
He’ll probably get a new deal at some point soon, but I mean come on — Taysom Hill is making more money per year ($10 million) than Waller.
The Las Vegas Raiders brought in Davante Adams this offseason and paid him a boatload of money. They also made Derek Carr one of the highest-paid quarterbacks in the league.
It would only make sense in the near future for players like Darren Waller and Hunter Renfrow to follow suit.
Those players are part of the core of this franchise and the Raiders would be fools not to pay them fair value.
