Biggest NFL contract bargain at EDGE: Yannick Nagkoue, Indianapolis Colts

Average annual salary: $13 million (33rd among EDGE players)

There are pretty much two tiers of edge rushers in today’s NFL.

There are guys with massive contracts, and there are players on rookie deals.

In reality, there’s not much of an in-between.

Among the players that do fall in that in-between — Colts pass rusher Yannick Ngakoue.

This offseason, the Las Vegas Raiders prioritized signing Chandler Jones in free agency which allowed them to send Ngakoue to the Colts in exchange for cornerback Rock Ya-Sin.

A rare player-for-player deal in today’s NFL, but one that will greatly benefit the Indianapolis Colts.

Althoug Ngakoue has been passed around from the Jaguars to the Vikings to the Ravens to the Raiders and now the Colts in recent years, he’s coming off of one of his most productive seasons in 2021.

  • 10 total sacks
  • 8 tackles for loss
  • 23 QB hits
  • 36 pressures

At $13 million per season, those kinds of numbers are a massive bargain.

The Indianapolis Colts needed — desperately — more consistent pressure off the edge. Ngakoue is one of those types of players that can just constantly win with his first step and quickness.

He’ll be an asset to the Indianapolis defense this season, and at a very reasonable rate of pay.
