Dalton Schultz is unhappy with the Dallas Cowboys due to stalled contract talks. If he decides to hold out, here are 3 options in free agency.

Somewhere along the way, the Dallas Cowboys became one of the stingiest teams in the NFL. Gone are the days when Jerry Jones throws too much cash at his players and instead, his son Stephen Jones tries to lowball everyone.

This has burnt them several times, but they refuse to learn from it. In fact, they’ve already made Dalton Schultz mad in his contract negotiations as the starting tight end stopped participating in OTAs.

Should the frustration turn into a full-blown holdout, Dallas could at least look to one of these three free agents.

Dallas Cowboys TE Option No. 3: Kyle Rudolph

A former second-round pick out of Notre Dame back in 2011, Kyle Rudolph spent his first 10 seasons in the NFL with the Minnesota Vikings. He was a key part of their offense who had 453 receptions for 4,488 yards and 48 touchdowns.

His best season statistically was in 2016 when he had 83 receptions for 840 yards and seven touchdowns. But he was even more effective as a blocker.

As good as he was in his prime, Rudolph’s play has declined some as he was released by Minnesota before the 2021 season and signed with the New York Giants. He wound up starting 13 games and had 26 receptions for 257 yards and a touchdown.

New York also moved on from him after just one season and Rudolph has yet to find a new home. He clearly wouldn’t bring the same receiving skill Schultz has shown the past two seasons but he’s a savvy veteran who would catch on in a hurry and could help them get by until the situation with Schultz is resolved.
