Dallas Cowboys TE Option No. 1: Jared Cook

The last option we look at for the Dallas Cowboys to try and replace Dalton Schultz — in the event of a holdout — is the elder statesman of the bunch. He’s also the most well-traveled but could be the best option nonetheless.

Jared Cook recently turned 35-years-old and just finished his 13th season in the NFL. He was also on his sixth team since entering the league in 2009.

A third-round pick of the Tennessee Titans, Cook spent four seasons with the team that drafted him before joining the St. Louis Rams in 2013. After three years with them, he spent one season in Green Bay, two in Oakland, two in New Orleans, and finally one season with the Los Angeles Chargers.

As for his time in Green Bay, Cowboys fans surely remember that since he was the one who made the insane sideline catch that ruined the attempted comeback in the playoffs by Dallas. Of course, at that time, Mike McCarthy was the head coach for the Packers, so he and Cook already have a relationship — one where the coach saw him play at a high level.

Cook also still appears to have plenty in the tank. He played 16 games in L.A. with 10 starts last year and had 48 receptions for 564 yards and four touchdowns.

None of those numbers would get him in the Pro Bowl, but he would be a decent option should they need to make a move.
