Which 2021 NFL playoff teams will miss the playoffs in 2022?
The New England Patriots are a team who could miss the playoffs for the second time in three seasons.
Last year, the Patriots were the most active team in free agency, rebuilding their roster and sporting a new quarterback in Mac Jones.
It paid off, as New England went 10-7 and made the playoffs as a Wild Card. However, their 2022 offseason was less than inspiring, losing Josh McDaniels to the Las Vegas Raiders, practically giving away Shaq Mason to the Buccaneers, and not exactly having that strong of a draft.
I’m not sure the Patriots improved their roster at all, and this is even more urgent when the three other teams in the AFC East all improved.
The Bills somehow got better, the Dolphins added a ton of quality talent to their offense, and the Jets had yet another good draft, and are hoping that Zach Wilson takes the leap in year two.
I think the Patriots are probably finishing third in the AFC East, and with the extremely deep AFC, that won’t be enough to make the postseason.
I still think New England can finish with a winning record, but I would not expect them to be able to do much damage outside of that. The Dolphins and Bills simply have more firepower on their roster.
I think Mac Jones is easily the second-best QB in the division, but that’s all the team has going for them for 2022, at least.
