Kansas City Chiefs could regret trading Tyreek Hill

To state the blatantly obvious, I think the Kansas City Chiefs could end up regretting the trade they made with the Miami Dolphins involving superstar wide receiver Tyreek Hill.

To oversimplify it as much as possible, Tyreek Hill was a critical part of the Kansas City Chiefs’ offensive success the last handful of years.

There is no one in the NFL that plays at a faster speed than Hill. What in the world does that mean?

It means that there’s no way anyone can really keep up with him over the course of a game. You have to cover him with multiple guys. You have to adjust your gameplan for him.

Not only is Hill fast, and not only does he play fast, but he’s physical and strong at the catch point.

He does so many things well as a receiver that go beyond just running fast and benefitting from Patrick Mahomes at the quarterback position.

Trading away Hill significantly weakened the Chiefs’ offensive skill talent and there’s no way to know if they’ve adequately replaced him.

They’ve certainly added a lot of bodies at receiver — JuJu Smith-Schuster, Skyy Moore, and Marquez Valdes-Scantling, to name a few — but ultimately that might not matter.

Hill is possibly the most dynamic offensive weapon in the entire NFL. He’s an elite player at one of the game’s most important positions and while you can’t fault the Chiefs for drawing a line in the proverbial sand financially, you also can’t just replace a guy like this with draft picks.

This move could hurt the Chiefs significantly in 2022.
