NFL roster no. 23: Minnesota Vikings

23. team. 60. . . . Minnesota Vikings

The Minnesota Vikings’ roster rounds out the bottom 10 in the NFL right now, which speaks frankly to the overall volume of strong rosters in the league and how tough it is to differentiate a lot of teams.

Kirk Cousins is an average starting QB in today’s NFL. He posts some big numbers at times, but he’s far from a game-changer.

The Vikings’ top skill players are absolutely outstanding.

Justin Jefferson, Adam Thielen, Dalvin Cook, and Irv Smith Jr. are all dangerous when fully healthy. KJ Osborn really emerged last season with seven touchdown catches and gives the Vikings another threat while Bisi Johnson returns healthy in 2022.

The Vikings also added one of my personal favorite underrated wide receivers, Albert Wilson.

The offensive line in Minnesota has been invested in heavily. That should translate to success, but they’ve had mixed results.

Defensively, the Vikings are in rebuild mode.

The team made some low-risk, high-reward types of pickups on the defensive front this offseason by bringing in free agents Harrison Phillips (IDL) and Za’Darius Smith (EDGE).

New general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah really emphasized this side of the ball in the offseason with some big-time additions both in free agency and the NFL Draft.

  • Za’Darius Smith, EDGE
  • Harrison Phillips, DL
  • Jordan Hicks, LB
  • Brian Asamoah, LB
  • Andrew Booth Jr., CB
  • Lewis Cine, S

In addition to all of those moves, Danielle Hunter should be back and healthy. The Vikings need some pieces to progress quickly, but they’ve got a good overall roster, just not a great one.
