Davante Adams picked Derek Carr over Jordan Love, not Aaron Rodgers
The common misconception is that Davante Adams picked QB Derek Carr over QB Aaron Rodgers. Recently Adams cleared that up for us.
Davante Adams, one of the most polished, and yes the best, wide receivers in the NFL shocked the league when he left the Green Bay Packers to play with Derek Carr in Las Vegas with the Raiders.
There was more to this story than we originally thought.
When Davante Adams left the Green Bay Packers there was definitely some confusion surrounding the trade, especially considering Adams’ current quarterback Aaron Rodgers is arguably one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time.
It is understandable that Adams would want to reunite with his Fresno State quarterback Derek Carr but it is somewhat of a downgrade from Rodgers, and the Packers have been far more competitive within their division than the Raiders have been in the AFC West as of late.
During the Raiders minicamp this week Adams was asked if he and Rodgers had talks during the (trade) process and since he left Green Bay and Adams acknowledged they spoke several times.
Davante Adams spoke with Aaron Rodgers before the deal went down
When asked Adams stated that they openly spoke about Rodgers’ position on how long he intended to be in Green Bay and what that would mean for Adams as he has goals…
"I’ve got aspirations of doing really big things and being remembered…It just wasn’t really a point in my career that I was willing to sacrifice Aaron [Rodgers] not being there after a year or two. So my decision was to be here [Las Vegas] and he respected that. Davante Adams"
There were other clues that led Adams to choose to head to the desert instead of staying in Green Bay.
