It’s the start of a new NFL era in the Windy City. Will the Chicago Bears continue to be busy when it comes to adding veteran players?

Back in 2018, with general manager Ryan pace calling the shots and first-time NFL head coach Matt Nagy at the controls, the Chicago Bears snapped a seven-year postseason drought and won the NFC North with an impressive 12-4 record.

Nagy’s club was led by a fierce defense and young quarterback Mitch Trubisky was at the helm of the offense. Chicago would fall in the first round of the playoffs to the visiting Philadelphia Eagles – ending a very promising season.

Since then, the Bears have failed to produce a winning campaign. After back-to-back 8-8 showings in 2019 and 2020 (the latter resulting in a wild card berth), the team tumbled to 7-10 this past year.

Now there’s a new man at the controls in former Indianapolis defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus. The new general manager is Ryan Poles, who worked for the Kansas City Chiefs.

The team has made a lot of changes in personnel, parting ways what some familiar names while adding a lot of veteran free agents, most notably at the wide receiver position. Is there room for more? Here are three names to ponder.

Chicago Bears could pursue OL Ereck Flowers

Via Sam Monson of Pro Football Focus (subscription required), the Bears’ offensive front was the NFL’s 22nn-ranked unit in 2021. General manager Ryan Poles selected three offensive linemen in this year’s draft.

The club also signed guards Lucas Patrick and Dakota Dozier, as well as tackles Julie’n Davenport and Shon Coleman. The latter hasn’t played in the league since 2017.

Could the Bears take a look at Ereck Flowers, who began his career at tackle, switched to guard in 2019 and comes off a solid year on the left side in his second stint with Washington (via Bryan Manning of CommandersWire.com).
