Green Bay Packers cut candidate no. 2: Dean Lowry, DL

Dean Lowry is a starting defensive lineman for the Green Bay Packers but it’s possible we could still see him get moved before the beginning of the 2022 season.

Is he a true cut candidate?

Maybe, maybe not.

The Packers would probably much prefer to trade someone like Lowry, who had five sacks last season and nine QB hits, both of which were career-best numbers.

Lowry is 28 this season which is also a contract year for him.

This guy is steady and durable and while he may not be spectacular, he’s a very physical presence on the defensive line who gives the Packers consistent availability.

It would be hard to part with that but the Packers may need the 2023 salary cap rollover. They could save almost $6 million but cutting Lowry before the 2022 regular season and they have capable players besides Lowry.

One of the Packers’ two first-round picks in the 2022 NFL Draft was spent on Georgia defensive lineman Devonte Wyatt who will factor into the starting lineup right away.

The Packers also signed free agent defensive lineman Jarran Reed, who could presumably fill the role vacated by Lowry if he were to be traded or released.
