The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are one of the most loaded teams in the NFL heading into the 2022 season. Which players could be cut before the season begins?

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are absolutely loaded from top to bottom once again.

One of the best rosters in the entire NFL continues to seemingly get better and better even with some pieces shuffling in and out.

Tom Brady is back for his 122nd NFL season and is still playing at an MVP-caliber level.

Because this roster is so deep, we could see some bigger names dropped as we get closer to Week 1 of the 2022 NFL season.

Which players could be cut or maybe traded before the start of this coming season? Let’s take a look at three names.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers cut candidate no. 3: Breshad Perriman, WR

The career trajectory of former first-round pick Breshad Perriman has been a fascinating one to witness.

After struggling with injuries early on, he’s managed to carve out a role as a vertical threat, albeit on a much smaller scale than the Baltimore Ravens had originally hoped.

He had his best season back in 2019 with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers catching six touchdowns and averaging almost 18 yards per reception.

He played the 2020 season with the New York Jets and then latched back on with the Bucs in 2021 for a handful of games as injuries piled up for them at the wide receiver position.

The Bucs brought him back in 2022 on a one-year deal worth over $1 million.

With that being said, is he a lock to make this final roster?

I’m not so sure.

Let’s take a look at some of the other players on the Bucs’ depth chart at this position.

  • Mike Evans
  • Chris Godwin
  • Russell Gage
  • Tyler Johnson
  • Scott Miller
  • Jaelon Darden

Obviously, the numbers game at the wide receiver position is dependent on Chris Godwin’s health to start the season.

You’ve got to assume that Godwin’s status could affect greatly whether Perriman is kept initially, and odds are, the Bucs will play it safe with Godwin rather than rush him back.

But if he can be ready for the start of the season — crazier things have happened than nine-month recoveries from ACL injuries — then a veteran like Perriman could be the odd man out at the receiver position.
