Tampa Bay Buccaneers cut candidate no. 2: Ke’Shawn Vaughn, RB

The Buccaneers have a bit of a logjam at the running back position heading into the 2022 offseason.

We’ve seen that the Bucs are not afraid to keep a lot of guys at this position because they have players with a variety of skillsets, but this could finally be the year they cut bait with Vaughn, who hasn’t been able to carve himself a consistent role with this team.

The Buccaneers did let go of Ronald Jones in the 2022 offseason, but they brought in rookie Rachaad White from Arizona State in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft.

The depth chart at running back includes Leonard Fournette, Giovani Bernard, and now White along with Vaughn.

They’ve also got Kenjon Barner on the roster who could make some noise during the preseason.

It’s not out of the question to think the Bucs could keep four backs on the active roster. Perhaps the Bucs will view Vaughn as a RB3 or RB4 going into this season and just keep that depth because they can.

However, Vaughn is a former third-round pick who had much higher expectations coming out of Vanderbilt than to be just an emergency back in case the guys ahead of him on the depth chart get hurt.

There are enough running back needy teams in the NFL right now that the Bucs might be able to get something for Vaughn but don’t be surprised if he hits the waiver wire at some point before Week 1.
