NFL QB no. 5: Carson Wentz, Washington Commanders

Pick Analysis. Washington Commanders. Carson Wentz. Scouting Report. QB. 5. player. 58

Tell me if you’ve heard this before. Carson Wentz is on the hot seat. Around this time last off-season, Wentz was expected to rejuvenate his career as the Indianapolis Colts quarterback.

Before the last few games of the 2021 NFL Season, Wentz was controlling the narrative. With the help of Jonathan Taylor, Wentz had a good season.

The former Eagle passed for 3,563-yards 27 touchdowns to just seven interceptions. He’s bringing those same stats and expectations to the Washington Commanders.

The NFC East is a winnable division, especially for the Commanders, who have one of the most talented teams in the NFL. Wentz comes to a team with weapons starting with Terry McLaurin, who can get 1,000 receiving yards in his sleep. They added Curtis Samuel and rookie Jahan Dotson.

Antonio Gibson is one of the best young running backs in the NFL. He’s not Taylor, but he’s a powerful runner with breakaway capabilities.

So Wentz doesn’t have the luxury of excuses, considering this team was a couple of wins away from making the playoffs. Wentz is on his third team in three years.

If this franchise says he’s not worthy of a starting job, he likely will be relegated to backup duties.
