NFL QB no. 2: Tua Tagovailoa, Miami Dolphins
Tua Tagovailoa faces similar to his former Alabama teammate, Jalen Hurts. There’s always an argument when it comes to wins and losses as a stat for a quarterback.
Using that logic, Tua is 18-8 as a starter for the Dolphins. He’s the first quarterback since Jay Fiedler to have a back-to-back winning season. Unfortunately, he hasn’t led the Dolphins to the playoffs.
General Manager Chris Grier has put together a track team at wide receiver for Tua. The Fins already had a speedster who proved he’s also a volume target in Jaylen Waddle.
Grier added Cedrick Wilson and made the blockbuster trade for All-Pro Tyreek Hill. Grier also upgraded the offensive line with a Pro Bowl left tackle in Terron Armstead and a swing guard with Pro Bowl potential in Connor Williams.
Tua is two years removed from a severe injury with an offensive-minded head coach and a young, hungry staff.
Hill has been hyping up his new quarterback. He even said he’d take Tua over Patrick Mahomes when it comes to accuracy.
This is a make-or-break season for the third-year quarterback who hasn’t lived up to his draft status. Grier stockpiled picks for the 2023 NFL Draft.
If Tua doesn’t become the main reason for the Dolphins’ success, they will draft his successor next season.
