Las Vegas Raiders potential cut No. 1: Clelin Ferell, EDGE

Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. OLB. Raiders. 1. Clelin Ferrell. player. 28

Speaking of this regime not being beholden to draft status, that could spell doom for Clelin Ferrell. Jon Gruden and former general manager Mike Mayock loved taking players from Alabama and Clemson — and they made no apologies for this.

Both said they liked to take players from winning programs and while this led them mainly to Alabama, there were a few Tigers they reached for. None more so than Ferrell who was the No. 4 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft.

This selection was instantly criticized and in all honesty, it wasn’t fair to Ferrell. He was considered a day one pick, but not a top-5 guy. If that wasn’t enough pressure, he was also being asked to replace Khalil Mack, who was just traded to the Chicago Bears.

As a rookie, he was fine — not great — with 38 tackles and 4.5 sacks. Still there was something to build upon — or so it seemed.

Ferrell never really grew from there as he had just 27 tackles and two sacks in year two. He also missed five games that season.

He was able to play in 16 this past year but was a reserve in every contest, and ended up with 14 tackles and 1.5 sacks.

Looking ahead to 2022, he’s still not close to starting. Not only do the Raiders still have Maxx Crosby but they also landed Chandler Jones in free agency. There’s also Kyler Fackrell and Tashawn Bower who can step up and perform at an acceptable level.

Next. Davante Adams picked Derek Carr over Jordan Love, not Aaron Rodgers. dark

In the end, it could be too much for Ferrell to make it to the roster.
