1. No other takers for Baker Mayfield?

As Baker Mayfield was not only a first-round selection but the first pick overall, his fifth-year option is guaranteed by the Browns and his contract is extensive.

The Browns have publicly been shopping around the league to find a team that will not only provide valuable picks for Mayfield but will completely assume his contract.

The Browns do not want to be fiscally responsible for any of the remaining compensation on Mayfield’s deal, especially now that they have committed to a fully guaranteed contract for Watson.

The issue the Browns face now is a possible suitor, the Carolina Panthers, have their hands full managing the contract of ex-Jet quarterback Sam Darnold who is turning out to not be the answer in Carolina.

While a trade to Carolina would make sense there are clearly specifications within the trade that Panthers owner David Tepper does not agree with.

The Browns’ predicament continues to mount as it seems all but confirmed that Watson will not play for the 2022 season. The Browns signed backup quarterback Jacoby Brissett who has assumed starting roles in the past and is formidable, but he isn’t as good as a healthy Baker Mayfield.

The new rumor is that the Browns, who have previously excused Mayfield from minicamp, may be tempted to ask Mayfield to re-join them for the 2022 season until Watson can return.

Absolutely not. Mayfield’s hard work, toughness, and dedication to the Browns have been ignored and swept under the rug.

The Browns asking for Mayfield to return serves nothing other than to attempt to help Stefanski and Berry retain their positions in case Brissett drives the Browns down to a 4-13 team and ownership is not patient enough to keep them in Berea.

Not only did the front office tell Mayfield that they did not want him back but his own teammates have expressed a desire to play for Watson over Mayfield.

"I really, truly honesty have no regrets of my time in Cleveland of what I tried to give that place. True Clevelanders and true Browns fans know that, and that’s why I can walk away from the whole situation feeling like I did it. Baker Mayfield via the “Ya Neva Know” podcast"

Mayfield should absolutely refuse this if the opportunity is presented and no one should blame him if he does.
