NFL Draft: Re-drafting the quarterback-loaded 2020 NFL Draft
3. Detroit Lions: Chase Young, DE, Ohio State
Original pick: Jeff Okudah, CB, Ohio State
There’s no doubt, even after a torn ACL last season, that Chase Young is the premier defensive talent from this NFL Draft class.
Built with an insane blend of size and speed, Young is a true game-changer off the edge and would be a cornerstone type of piece for the Detroit Lions to build around as a franchise.
Assuming most other things could be the same, a duo of Chase Young and Aidan Hutchinson would be a ton of fun to watch.
The Lions actually took Young’s Ohio State teammate Jeff Okudah with this pick, but injuries have unfortunately caused him to miss the majority of his first two NFL seasons.
4. New York Giants: Tristan Wirfs, OT, Iowa
Original pick: Andrew Thomas, OT, Georgia
The New York Giants really could have gotten this right the first time around, but they chose a different path.
Dave Gettleman got cute with this pick and took Andrew Thomas, who was projected to go high in many 2020 NFL mock drafts the year prior.
Thomas’ stock had slipped leading up to the 2020 Draft and players like Tristan Wirfs and Mekhi Becton were skyrocketing after their other-worldly Scouting Combine performances.
Wirfs has proven to be the best tackle from this class — by far. Thomas improved last season but picking Wirfs would have been the right call at the time and it’s proven to be that way over two seasons.
