The Minnesota Vikings have some intriguing roster battles heading into the 2022 season. Who are some players that could be on the chopping block?

The Minnesota Vikings are now living in a world where Aaron Rodgers is without his best receiver, Davante Adams. Is this their time to strike in the NFC North?

It just might be.

Before the Vikings begin their quest for the NFC North crown, they’re going to have to make some adjustments to the roster just like everyone else. Although this isn’t the best or deepest Minnesota Vikings roster of the last decade, it’s gotten stronger under new general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah.

Which players could be on the cut or trade block before Week 1? Let’s take a look at three.

Minnesota Vikings cut candidate no. 3: Bisi Johnson, WR

The Minnesota Vikings are fairly deep at the wide receiver position heading into the 2022 season.

With some additions made in the last couple of years, this is how the group looks heading into training camp at the top:

  • Justin Jefferson
  • Adam Thielen
  • KJ Osborn
  • Ihmir Smith-Marsette
  • Albert Wilson
  • Jalen Nailor (rookie)

Is it possible that Bisi Johnson could find a way to beat out one or two of those guys?

Absolutely.

Unfortunately, the NFL doesn’t do redshirts, and despite missing all of the 2021 season with an injury, Johnson is heading into a contract year.

The Vikings saw Johnson provide them with a nice secondary option in the passing game in his rookie season back in 2019 when he caught 31 passes and three touchdowns.

Unfortunately, the group may have other options, many of which have preferable contract situations at this point.

KJ Osborn had seven touchdowns last season in a semi-breakout year for the Vikings as their third option in the passing game.

Ihmir Smith-Marsette was a day three pick just last year and caught a pair of touchdowns on just five receptions last season.

Albert Wilson is a veteran that brings a ton of speed and experience to the table, and the Vikings just invested a sixth-round pick in Jalen Nailor.

Johnson will need to have a big camp to stick on the Vikings’ roster with a new coaching staff.
