Minnesota Vikings cut candidate no. 1: Troy Dye, LB

The Minnesota Vikings have made some pretty hefty investments at the linebacker position over the last couple of months.

In free agency, they brought in former Eagles and Cardinals starter Jordan Hicks, who figures to be a primary starter alongside Eric Kendricks.

That is, unless Kendricks himself is traded…

There are a lot of question marks at the off-ball linebacker position right now for the Vikings since the team not only signed Hicks, but also drafted Oklahoma’s Brian Asamoah in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft.

Behind those guys are 2020 undrafted free agent Blake Lynch — who has played a bigger role compared to Troy Dye at this point — as well as 2021 third-round pick Chazz Surratt.

Because Troy Dye plays a significant role on special teams, we could see the Vikings get something for him in a trade rather than just have to cut him outright.

He’s a long, athletic young player at the linebacker position and there is no question he has starter traits, but will he ever reach his full potential in the NFL?

The Vikings have gotten a decent look at him over the last two seasons and heading into his third year, I think Troy Dye could be headed toward a change of scenery.
