It’s a franchise that was busier than usual this offseason. Which three of the Pittsburgh Steelers additions in 2022 stand out among the rest?

It has already been a different year for a franchise that has won the most regular-season games since the AFL-NFL merger. And the Pittsburgh Steelers, who watched veteran quarterback Ben Roethlisberger retire after 18 seasons, seem to be enjoying free agency for the first time in years.

Mike Tomlin’s team comes off a 9-7-1 showing and reached the postseason once again. But the club was humbled by the Chiefs in the playoffs, a recent and disturbing pattern for this franchise.

As for the newcomers, the latest addition is defensive tackle Larry Ogunjobi, late of the defending AFC champion Cincinnati Bengals. He inked a one-year deal with the club. The team spent its share of money this offseason. And of course, the club also added to the roster via April’s draft.

So which three players stand out among the many new additions to the Steelers’ organization? In this instance, there’s help for the offense, defense, and special teams.

This is an organization that many more times than not has nailed the wide receiver position in the draft. Back in April, the Steelers used a second-round selection on University of Georgia standout George Pickens.

And he has drawn some rave reviews this offseason.

Meanwhile, Mike Tomlin’s team has lacked a big-play artist on special teams since the days when dynamic Antonio Brown was excelling in this area and accidentally kicking Cleveland Browns in the head.

Pittsburgh also used a fourth-round choice on speedy Calvin Austin III from the University of Memphis. His big-play ability was evident the past two seasons in which he caught a combined 19 TD passes, scored one rushing touchdown, and came away with a pair of punt return TDs.

With an offense that will have a number of new faces, better field position would be a major positive.
